And it’s not just a new year, but a whole new decade! We say goodbye to a decade that brought us; a host of political events that we would all rather skip over, two royal weddings, four royal babies, (and that’s only direct line to the throne), Olympic and Commonwealth games held in the UK, the onesie (!), virtual assistants Siri and Alexa, and TV highlights including Mrs C’s favourites – the Great British Bake Off and Downtown Abbey.
But enough of the past, we’re in a new year and a new decade, with so much to do and to look forward to. Father Christmas brought me some new socks, new shirts and a new jumper. (And a word, if I may, Santa, I love the socks, and the shirts but a wee bottle of Macallan would be just the ticket next year, actually scrub that, a big bottle would be great. Not that I’m ungrateful, but I was exceptionally good and, believe me, I do need the incentive!). I’ve also a list of New Year Resolutions. Admittedly, very much the same as last year’s, although slightly longer, as the first resolution on my list is a resolution to keep my resolutions.
At Ace, we also have some new cars; a shiny new Volkswagen Passat, a great car to drive and more importantly, to be driven in, and a great, new comfy minibus to drive our valued customers around in, and hopefully some new clients too.
2020 has been designated Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Water (by Visit Scotland if you need to ask). https://www.visitscotland.com/. Moray, sitting as it does on the southern shores of the Moray Firth has over 50 miles of coastline stretching from Findhorn in the west to Cullen in the east. And, what a variety; we have rugged cliffs, caves, sheltered coves, sandy beaches, fishing towns and harbours. We also have famous rivers: the Spey – the seventh longest in the UK- and Findhorn and of course the Lossie, all of which reach the sea in Moray. Inland, we have lochs, streams and canals, including those designed by the engineering great, Thomas Telford. With such a coast and bodies of water comes a range of activities associated with water; kayaking, sailing, surfing, windsurfing, dolphin watching, coastal walking/cycling, http://www.morayways.org.uk/moray-coast-trail.asp fishing, links golf courses and eating some very, tasty seafood. Seafood from Moray is exported around the world.
Two events celebrating the coast to get in the diary are the Portsoy Boat Festival https://www.stbfportsoy.org over 20/21st June and in the autumn, the Findhorn Bay Festival, 18-23 September, which will highlight the culture, heritage and topography of the region’s rivers and coastlines in its programme. https://findhornbayfestival.com.
