The new day dawns and it’s cold and blowing a hooley
So we start this month nursing a dram or two, warm and comfortable in our armchair and dream of how tomorrow, definitely tomorrow we are going to start those new year resolutions.
Cut down on that drink, eat more sensibly and not just five portions of fruit and vegetables a day but perhaps six, and yes get a lot more exercise a lot more. Make time for exercise – get up earlier and walk to work, take time out at lunchtime to go for a walk – get fresh air and get fit.
But the new day dawns and it’s cold and blowing a hooley and you’ve stayed up too late the night before watching some rubbish on the television and now running late so no time to prepare the fruit for breakfast and go for that walk… so maybe not today we’ll put off that exercise and oh yes there’s a bit of Scotch pie left over and well who can resist that for lunch oh and I’m a bit full now so won’t be doing that walk and before you know it it’s Burn’s Night … and there’s all that food and drink to get through.
Whoever came up with the dry January idea can’t have been a Scot – for a start there’s seeing in the new year, and there’s all the first footing – it would just be wrong not to enjoy a dram and then just as you get over that, there’s Burn’s Day on the horizon on the 25th when we drink a dram to Robbie’s skill with the pen and verse and it’s just such a miserable cold and dark month that there’s no need to make it more depressing.
An exercise that I can endorse is that of the mind in choosing your summer holidays and judging by the number of adverts across the TV it’s not just the minds here at Ace Tours that start to consider summer holidays at this time of year.
We had such a lovely summer here last year that it’s tempting to just try a staycation and stay put. We have many beautiful beaches here in Moray and if you are lucky you might glimpse dolphins and perhaps whales in the Moray Firth the whale and dolphin conservation society https://dolphincentre.whales.org/ is actually based at the mouth of the River Spey – very near the Ace Tours HQ and whales have already been spotted in the Firth this year – 2019.
After all there is so much to enjoy in Moray – there’s golf, cycling, fishing, stalking, walking, even mountaineering – Ben Macdui, the UK’s second highest mountain is actually in Moray, ski-ing (in season), and of course whisky distilleries to visit.

Yes a Staycation sounds very tempting but as all those who run a business and of course Mrs C who runs the family will know – if I stay at home the temptation to go into the office is too great. These days in hotter climes you do still have the mobiles and wifi keeping you in touch with the office and distracted from the pool but at least I am physically there so tempting to stay at home as it sounds I think I’ll be exercising my mind with some holiday brochures and leave Moray to those free to enjoy its delights.
Of course you don’t have to wait until the summer or even the Easter holidays come to that, whenever you come to Moray you’ll be sure of a warm welcome and sunny dispositions if not the weather.
