Christmas Do

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2020. Sláinte Mhath.

Well, jingle bells and ho ho ho!

(That was all written very sarcastically, the pen might be mightier than the tongue (or is that sword) but it doesn’t do sarcasm very well). It’s nearly Christmas.

My boys are past the age of getting excited about the magic of Christmas. The elder, now sees it as party time and the younger, although only 10, is showing all too many signs of following his brother.  Annoyingly, though, they aren’t beyond Santa’s Christmas list.  The older they get, the more elaborate the presents, and yes, it goes without saying, the more expensive.

Poor Santa, I hope he’s been keeping up to date with the latest tech. It’s all designer clothes and computer games. Games that I need a degree to play..or maybe just a ten-year- old, when he lets me.  Those hardworking elves, their carpentry skills are almost totally redundant.

How simple Christmases past, when they were little boys and delighted with a train set and a Cadburys’ selection box.  Still, it could be worse.  My little niece is looking for a pink unicorn that’s an actual pink unicorn.  Although, wouldn’t that be a novel taxi service?  No worries about getting people to book those tours eh?  A few people might have seen pink unicorns after, a visit to a distillery but, almost none, before.

Mrs C, of course, loves this time of year.  Shopping, albeit for other people, and getting dressed up, being two of her favourite things. Or, shall we just cut to the chase, and call it spending money.  It’s an excuse to buy an outrageously expensive dress. The party dress; a nocturnal animal, rarely seen outside the dark fathoms of its lair (ie the wardrobe) beyond its first outing.  Still, she always looks lovely and I don’t begrudge it (honest!).

Me, no, I’m not immune to the Christmas party. However, bah humbug. The way I see it, the party season is the time to squeeze into an uncomfortable, ill-fitting suit.  As our wardrobe, loses my wife’s clothes, (hence the ‘I’ve nothing to wear’) it seems to shrink mine.  I’m quite convinced that a year in a wardrobe is the equivalent to a boil wash for a man’s suit.  How else to explain it?

Yes, there are the parties where you wear a suitably festive jumper, however, we have standards here at Ace Taxis and as our party is usually in January it looks a bit odd to be wearing a Santa jumper after the event.   We have our party in January because Christmas and New Year are our busiest time.

The bookings have already started to come in for taking people to and from their Christmas dos so that they everyone can enjoy a drink and not worry about driving.  We have minibuses and large comfortable cars to make sure people get there safely and on time. And, it’s much better fun to travel together on the way to the event.

People do of course opt to stay sober and be the driver. They end up having to sit there all night sipping a soft drink, and, then at the end of the night having to drive everyone home.  So, not only do you pay for alcoholic drinks you don’t drink, you end up with a very late night by the time you’ve driven friends and colleagues home all across Moray. Leave that for us to do, we’re paid for it.

And please remember, that it’s not just the night of drinking when you shouldn’t be driving. The day after a party you can still have alcohol in your system and be tired, so it’s wise not to drive.  Be prudent, if you need to get anywhere the next day – book us too!  Better safe than sorry.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2020.  Sláinte Mhath.
