Big excitement in Speyside this summer

Big excitement in Speyside this summer with the opening of Macallan’s new state of the art visitor centre at Craigellachie. Designed by architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the centre which has been six years in the making claims to bring together their whisky making past, their whisky making present and their vision for whisky making in the future. It only opened at the end of May so we haven’t had too many opportunities to go out there yet but from what we have seen it really is a fantastic building and fantastic experience designed to appeal to all the senses – not just the nose and taste – and definitely worth a tour. Be one of the first to try out this new experience and let us take you there in comfort and style so that you can fully enjoy it. https://www.themacallan.com/en/the-journal/new-distillery/

And whilst heading upriver (the Spey) to Macallan we can take you to a few other distilleries to try. There are around 52 whisky distilleries in Moray – one for every week of the year, so we are a bit spoiled for choice. The Malt Whisky trail offers a fair few:- http://maltwhiskytrail.com/ so let us know the ones you are interested in and we will design the programme and make the arrangements including lunch.

The summer is also the time when Highland towns host their Highland Games when traditionally clans would demonstrate their strength and skills. Whilst today it is more a competition between individuals you’ll still see some traditional events such as tossing the caber, putting the shot and of course a tug-o-war. It’s a colourful fun event with parades, Scottish music and Scottish dancing, food and drink, heritage events, craft stalls and much more. http://dufftownhighlandgames.com/

And if Pipeband music is to your taste you cannot miss Piping At Forres www.pipingatforres.com on Saturday 30 June. Around 100 pipe bands from across the world will compete to be the best in Europe. It’s a positive feast of the sights and sounds of Scotland with tartan galore, craft stalls, Highland dancing and a great family day out. It’s also sponsored by Benromach Whisky so you won’t be thirsty!

If you are interested in booking a tour and wish us to encompass Highland Games or any event let us know so that we can do the hardwork so that you and your friends can sit back and enjoy.
